Stranger Things
After 9 years, it’s finally over. Netflix’s Stranger Things has been a staple of American media for almost a decade. The much anticipated Season 5 has officially been released.
Stranger Things is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in the 1980’s. It is based on the Montauk Project conspiracy theory. The story is set around a group of four friends: Mike, Will, Dustin, and Lucus. The boys play Dungeons and Dragons the night that disaster strikes. Will goes missing. No one in Hawkins knows where he has gone and who took him. Little did the Police Chief, Jim Hopper, know that there was an “upside down” version of Hawkins the boys promptly called The Upside Down. While Mike, Dustin, and Lucus are looking for Will, they stumble upon a strange girl who is called Eleven because of a tattoo on her wrist. The boys learn about Eleven’s telekinetic powers. Will’s mom, Joyce Byers, discovers that she can hear Will and communicate with him through the lights. One day, they “find” Will’s body in the quarry lake. But, as Joyce becomes even more suspicious, she and Hopper raid the town’s morgue and discover that the body is fake. Eventually, Joyce and Hopper travel to the Upside Down and find Will alive.
The show’s writers, Matt and Ross Duffer wanted to make the fifth season the greatest. So in turn, they took over three years to write the final season. Controversally, a lot of diehard fans were not too happy with how the final episode ended.
Senior Jenna Deason had this to say about the ending, “I was really happy with the Stranger Things season finale. I have been watching the show since I was in 5th grade, so it was sad to see it end, but I was excited to see what they would do with the characters. I felt like the ending fit the characters very well. However, I am VERY sad about a situation that happened......but I will not spoil anything. Anyways, I was really happy with Dustin and Steve making it out alive and still continuing to be friends after everything they’ve been through. My favorite part about the finale is when they all pitched in together to defeat Vecna. Will and Elle used their powers, while the others were attacking from the outside. It was a special moment to see them all together trusting in one another to end what has haunted them for so long.”
