Special Olympics
The Special Olympics was hosted on April 17, 2026 at Herrin’s track field. There were a lot of schools there, and people there to support the runners. This was a very fun day for not only the athletes but also the people there to support them. The RAK-tivist class went and supported the athletes as they were doing their events. We interviewed a couple of RAK-tivist students who went, and here is what they said:
Did you enjoy watching the Olympics?
Tymber Melvin: Yes, I enjoyed it a lot.
Gabi Yadro: Yes, I enjoyed it.
What was your favorite event to help at?
Tymber Melvin: I liked helping with the 50 meter run.
Gabi Yadro: The 100 meter dash.
Would you help again?
Tymber Melvin: Yes, I enjoyed helping a lot!
Gabi Yadro: Yes, I liked how happy they got when they got their medals.
Example/what did you do exactly?
Tymber Melvin: I helped my friend Savannah with all her events and signed her up for those events.
Gabi Yadro: I helped with the 100 meter and shot put.
The athletes who placed in the 50 meter run are Rose Green for a gold medal, Ben Mosqueda and William Irvin for a bronze medal, and Savannah Whiting for a 5th place ribbon. The athletes who placed in the 100 meter run are Deion Monast Garcia for the gold medal, Jameson Dryden and Clayton Taylor for a silver medal, and Emmett Moreno and Joseph Willmore for a 4th place ribbon. The athletes who placed in softball throw are Jameson Dryden and Rose Green for a gold medal, Savannah Whiting and Emmett Moreno for a silver medal, Ben Mosqueda for the bronze medal, and Joseph Willmore and Losha Honchar for 5th place ribbons. Lastly, the athletes who placed in shot put are Deion Monast Garcia for the gold medal, William Irvin for the silver medal, and Clayton Taylor for 4th place ribbon. We have also interviewed a couple of the athletes, here is what they have said:
Did you have fun?
William Irvin: Yes I sure did! I had really fun getting 3rd and 2nd place medals.
Savannah Whiting: Yes!
What was your favorite event to be in?
William Irvin: I liked the 50 meter run and got a 3rd place medal.
Savannah Whiting: I liked the throwing and got a 2nd place medal.
Overall rating out of 10?
William Irvin: 10/10, I liked it a lot.
Savannah Whiting: 11/10, I liked it a lot.
It ended up going really well, and it seemed like everyone there had a blast! The Special Olympics ended up being so fun for not only the athletes, but also the supporters. This was a fun experience for the RAK-tivist students who went there to support their fellow students. Congratulations to all of the athletes who placed!
